VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide)

VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide and a member of the secretin–glucagon peptide superfamily, carrying a C-terminal amide. It has the molecular formula C₁₄₇H₂₃₇N₄₃O₄₃S, a molecular weight of approximately 3326.8 g/mol, and CAS number 40077-57-4. Its primary sequence is His-Ser-Asp-Ala-Val-Phe-Thr-Asp-Asn-Tyr-Thr-Arg-Leu-Arg-Lys-Gln-Met-Ala-Val-Lys-Lys-Tyr-Leu-Asn-Ser-Ile-Leu-Asn-NH₂. The peptide is a recognized ligand of the class B G-protein-coupled receptors VPAC1 and VPAC2. Supplied as a white to off-white lyophilized powder, soluble in water, stored refrigerated at 2–8 °C.
